WOMENS HEALTH

The lismore clinic

Womens Health

The independent practitioners focus on addressing the specific healthcare needs and medical conditions that are unique to women.

CONTRACEPTION

MIRENA/copper IUD insertions, Implanons, depo -provera injections and other contraceptive options.

Gynaecological Health

See your GP to discuss conditions that affect the female reproductive system, such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, and various types of cancer (e.g., breast, cervical, ovarian).  Irregular menstrual bleeding, post-menopausal bleeding and pain or bleeding during or after intercourse are all reasons to seek advice.

Sexual Health

Your GP can facilitate screening for STIs whether you are asymptomatic or have symptoms
such as pelvic pain, vaginal discharge or pain during intercourse.  Please book for friendly and compassionate advice and support from your GP.

Mental Health

Women can experience unique mental health challenges, such as postpartum depression,
perinatal anxiety, menopausal mood changes, PMDD and eating disorders. Please book with your GP if you have any concerns or would like a chat.

Menopausal health

Menopause and perimenopause can
happen any time.  You may experience irregular periods, hot flushes, night sweats, muscle aches, anxiety, dry skin, frequent urination amongst other symptoms.
Please book with your GP to discuss investigations and treatment options to help you improve your health and quality of life.

Bone Health

Osteoporosis is more common in women, particularly as they age. Adequate calcium intake, weight-bearing exercise, and bone density testing can help maintain bone health.

Breast Health

Your GP recommends that you examine your breasts monthly.  Breast lumps, skin changes, nipple discharge, pain or change in contour of the breast are all signs of
underlying issues.  The Australian breast cancer screening programme exists for asymptomatic women. Your doctor may contact you once you reach the age of 50 but can start breast screening early from age 40 on request to NSW breast screening.

Cancer Screening

Regular cervical cancer screening is an easy test that saves lives.  You are now able to do a self taken swab if you feel uncomfortable with a vaginal examination and are low risk.  Please see your doctor early if you develop
any symptoms of concern which include bleeding during/after intercourse or
intermenstrual bleeding or post menopausal bleeding.

Hormonal Health

Hormonal changes throughout a woman's life, from puberty to menopause, can impact physical and emotional health. Hormone therapy may be necessary in certain situations.
